What if Roasting Became Simpler

a reflection from our Technical Manager – Jose “Kobi” Tolentino

At the beginning of my coffee journey, I was certain that roasting would be my path. I could already see myself in the production room, away from the spotlight but deeply involved in the craft. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the artistry of being in the espresso and brew bar; I do. But for me, the complexity and interconnectedness of each step in the roasting process are what make it so exciting. Perhaps it’s my unique perspective after transitioning from social work, but I’ve developed a deep appreciation for how each element in coffee roasting works together to create something truly special.

Many people told me that roasting was challenging but not difficult, and I held onto that advice. I’m incredibly grateful to those who paved the way before me—who gave me the chance to experiment with their equipment or even step into their labs. They weren’t lying roasting is challenging and, at times, frustrating. But over time, I realized that it’s not as complicated as it initially seemed. Along the way, I’ve learned a few valuable lessons that guide my roasting journey:

  • Numbers don’t lie—but precision doesn’t have to be complicated.
  • Intuition matters—refine your skills through shared practice.

Trust your intuition and practice your skills with others.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally found a breakthrough. Of course, in this journey, striving for excellence is always the goal. But I soon discovered that running a coffee roastery is not just about perfecting roast profiles or hitting precise curves. It’s also building a business that’s sustainable and efficient—managing cash flow, minimizing waste, and ensuring your product is always available and quality, all while maintaining a distinct identity and narrative. That’s when I realized: roasting isn’t just about the perfect roast—it’s about creating a healthy, efficient business and community.

So, what changed everything for us?

We found the right partner: Typhoon Coffee Roasters.

For us, the answer was clear: partner with an organization whose products understand and address the challenges we face. And that’s when we found Typhoon Coffee Roasters. This machine quickly became our top choice—not only because it’s visually striking, but because it’s also incredibly user-friendly. Their innovative design means you don’t have to worry about complex installations (any UAE resident can appreciate the challenge of securing a Civil Defense Permit). And what’s the cherry on top? Training and maintenance have never been easier.

Typhoon’s 100% convection roasting technology is, without a doubt, a game-changer. The clear visualization inside the roasting chamber and dissecting its mechanical components helps you understand how energy-efficient the machine is, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it actually consumes the least energy in the industry.

What really impressed us was how the Typhoon helped us maintain consistency while increasing productivity—a perfect combination for any roastery. I’m genuinely excited for anyone who has the chance to roast with a Typhoon and challenge their roast profiles. It’s an overhaul of sorts, but the process is surprisingly simple once you get the hang of it.

Investing in a Typhoon Coffee Roaster is definitely worthwhile, especially if you’re focused on long-term business success. As we continue to explore all the potential this machine offers, I can confidently say it’s been a game-changer for us in a world where traditional roasting machine has the leverage of a favorable roasting condition in the Middle East. It’s a no brainer to start something anew or perhaps atypical because despite this condition, Typhoon perfectly fits too, and we just skipped through looking the clues.

Our next steps? We’d love to share more with you. If you’re ever in the area, feel free to drop by our roastery. Who knows? You might just want to be part of the journey.
