Description
Nestled in Othaya, Nyeri County, Central Kenya, the Kiruga Wet Mill is part of the Othaya Farmers Co-operative Society Ltd., supporting 501 small-scale farmers. With 161.6 hectares of rich, red volcanic soil at an altitude of 1813 meters, they cultivate Arabica varieties SL 28, SL 34, and Ruiru 11. Harvested in May-July and October-January, the cherries undergo a meticulous fully washed process, including pulping, fermentation, washing, and sun-drying over 14 days. This results in a coffee with citrus acidity, a smooth full body, and tones of black currant and vanilla. The cooperative produces 229,000 kilograms of cherries each season. Committed to sustainability, the cooperative engages in agroforestry by planting trees alongside coffee bushes. Their dedication to quality and environmental stewardship has earned them FLO certification. The Kiruga Wet Mill represents a community dedicated to excellence and sustainability in coffee production.
